Kai, I almost bought your argument! It's the best one so far against including
HTML markup. But the reason we want markup is that wiki-text is *intended* to
be simplistic. Extending it for presentation makes is as complex as HTML (or
worse). Plugins are a concession to this compromise but are only a partial
solution.

For example, if I want to do a well formatted table with coWiki text-- All of
the text in every cell has to be presented in the same way. But in real
presentations, headings are usually centered and content is left justified for
text and right for numbers.

We can agree that the operative words for the original goal was "simple" and
"minimal". :-) But that is not what users want now! As users grow up into the
wiki, they want to do a more sophisticated presentation, and they cannot.

Allowing markup in wiki text is just a fix for a poorly thought out formatting
language. We could as easily allow runoff commands!

In a way, the wiki is about content *managment*, and wiki text is just one way
of formatting the text. If I could create entire pages in html, or XML, or PHP
code, and still reference the content of the wiki is some consistent way, I
would be satisfied. That would not help someone that doesn't want to jump from
wiki-text to html, but maybe it would help them do the "right thing".

Is this a brain flash or is it "Of course, Stupid!"-- Wiki is about ease of
content *management* not _content_?
